Lucas Decliê
Lucas Decliê is a Bahian saxophonist and flutist, part of a new generation of musicians currently making waves in Salvador’s instrumental scene. His artistry seamlessly spans jazz, Brazilian music (MPB), and Afro-Brazilian rhythms, masterfully combining technical precision, improvisation, and a deep connection to the rich musical language of Bahia.
His career gained widespread recognition primarily through JAM no MAM, one of the premier hubs for instrumental music in Salvador. Lucas is a member of Geleia Solar, the project’s official house band, participating in dynamic performances centered on improvisation and the dialogue between jazz standards, Brazilian music, and diverse genres such as samba, baião, frevo, salsa, and blues. Within this ensemble, he features prominently on alto sax and flute.
Lucas was also a member of the Ijesax Saxophone and Percussion Quartet, a group founded in 2014 by saxophone students from the UFBA School of Music. The project conducted deep artistic research bridging popular and classical music, delivering unique reinterpretations of composers like Villa-Lobos, Moacir Santos, Astor Piazzolla, and Debussy, while integrating authentic Brazilian rhythmic elements as a core foundation of their musical language.
His reach extends into contemporary instrumental music and mentoring rising talent. Lucas is a member of the Coletivo Rumpilezzinho—a project deeply tied to the legacy of the late maestro Letieres Leite—joining a collective of young musicians who study and explore the intricate relationship between African-rooted rhythms and diverse instrumental arrangements.
As a studio session musician, he frequently lends his talent to recordings and original projects for other artists. In 2022, for instance, his alto saxophone was featured on the track ‘Descalçado’ by Isa Meirelles and Jordi Amorim, which won the Best Arrangement for a Song with Lyrics award at the 20th Educadora FM Music Festival.
Lucas continues to maintain a highly diverse artistic path. In 2024, he participated in studio sessions alongside acclaimed musicians like Kiko Souza and Matías Traut on projects deeply rooted in the instrumental universe and contemporary Bahian music.
In 2026, he is also exploring innovative creative spaces that merge arrocha, jazz, and rock, further proving his exceptional ability to fluidly navigate entirely different musical landscapes.
