Janis Dominique
Janis Dominique is a singer, songwriter, and actress from Salvador, Bahia. Her artistic journey began in theater at the age of 19, when she joined the musical As Mulheres de Seu Chico—a tribute to Chico Buarque presented by the Cia. de Teatro Lorena Pio. The experience, which enjoyed two sold-out runs at the Eva Herz Theater, marked the beginning of her career and revealed her undeniable power as a vocalist.
Raised in the Salvador metropolitan area and later settling in the Bahian capital, Janis grew up surrounded by music. The daughter of drummer Dimmy ‘Drummer’ da Silva, she was named in honor of rock legend Janis Joplin and was exposed to rock music from an early age. As she developed her own musical identity, she found her true calling within contemporary R&B, Neo Soul, soul, blues, and jazz—influences that came to define her signature sound.
Beginning in 2019, Janis dedicated herself more intensely to music, performing at cultural showcases, bars, festivals, and events across Salvador. In 2020, she released ‘Vênus,’ her debut digital single, produced in partnership with beatmaker Gobis. The track blends R&B, Neo Soul, and blues, tackling themes of female empowerment, desire, and every woman’s right to fully live out her affection.
‘Vênus’ also marked the launch of her solo career. Subsequently, Janis released the singles ‘Lilith’ in 2021 and ‘La Niña’ in 2022, expanding her original repertoire and consolidating an identity that fluidly bridges R&B, soul, and pop music. Her catalog also features more recent works, such as ‘Bateu, Bê!’ from the 2025 multi-artist project EP SSA/ID, Ep. 2: Arte Viva.
Her artistic path is therefore characterized by a powerful combination of theater, vocal performance, songwriting, and musical research. Her voice seamlessly balances the rich heritage of soul and blues with the contemporary edge of R&B, while her lived experience in Salvador deeply infuses her work with the cultural and musical diversity of Bahia.
Today, Janis represents a generation of Bahian artists who refuse to draw rigid boundaries between genres. Between her thriving solo career and her vital role in Banda Terráquea, she continues to carve out a distinct identity—fusing R&B, Neo Soul, blues, jazz, pop, and Afro-Brazilian roots with a commanding stage presence that proudly carries her training as an actress.
